Roundup: Kolten Holbert’s 3 lifts Gilmer past Calhoun, 47-46
MT. ZION – Baron Davis went off for a game-high 23 points here Wednesday night for host Calhoun County, but the Red Devils lost a 47-46 heartbreaker to rival Gilmer County after getting outscored 24-8 in the fourth quarter.
The 0-2 Red Devils, who also got a trio of 3s from Cooper Morris for part of his 13 counters, turned a 20-all contest at intermission into what looked like a comfortable margin entering the final eight minutes after outscoring the Titans 18-3 in the third.
However, that didn’t prove to be the case as Jacob Mick drove into the lane and kicked it out to Kolten Holbert, who drained what turned out to be the game-winning trifecta with seven seconds remaining.
Mick led the 1-2 Titans, who play host at 3 p.m. Saturday to Wahama, with 16 points.
Holbert finished with 13 points while Tyler Ratliff chipped in eight and Zach Wine six.
Williamstown 87, St. Marys 29
WILLIAMSTOWN – Parker Schramm’s alley-oop jam from Cruz Isaly highlighted a 42-point first quarter here Thursday night for host Williamstown as the Yellowjackets cruised past St. Marys, 87-29.
Williamstown, which opened its season on Tuesday night with a road win at Ravenswood, were led by Jayden Bryant’s game-high 15 points.
Bryant and Schramm, who had a dozen counters, were joined in double figures by Wyatt Powell (14) and Tyler Keiser (11).
Nate Nicely chipped in eight points for the victors, who got seven markers, three assists and a trio of steals from Isaly. Keiser also grabbed a quartet of caroms and had as many steals.
St. Marys (0-5) was led in scoring by Andre Anderson with seven and Ryan Kent with six.
WHS, which takes on host Warren at 6:45 p.m. today in the Clash at the Coliseum, will return home on Saturday, Dec. 28 when Poca invades.
Ravenswood 61, Wahama 45
RAVENSWOOD — Ravenswood shook off a loss to Williamstown earlier this week by taking down Wahama 61-45 Thursday.
The Red Devils (3-1) got 20 points, six rebounds and four assists from Noah Dawson to lead the way. Kelan Lucas added 15 points while Colin Layton netted 14. Jacob Francis finished with eight points for RHS while Evan Swain had team-highs with eight rebounds and two blocks.
The White Falcons (1-1) were paced by Eli Rickard’s 17 points. Cyrus Rickards added nine.
Ravenswood, which shot 46.8% (22 for 47) from the floor against Wahama, will be back in action Monday at Parkersburg Catholic.
