Roundup: Wirt, St. Marys, Ritchie, Tyler win via blowouts

ELIZABETH — Brody Ewing needed just five carries to amass 216 yards and five touchdowns — all in the first half — to help lead Wirt County to a 73-0 rout of visiting Beallsville Friday.

The Tigers, now 6-2 and set to entertain Gilmer County next week, also had the pass game working. Quarterback Tyler Smith was 6 for 7 for 219 yards and four touchdowns — two apiece to Porter Goodwin and Isaiah Sampson. Sampson finished with four catches for 152 yards and also caught a third touchdown from backup QB Jake Moore, while Goodwin, who now has 14 receiving TDs on the year, had three receptions for 146 yards.

The Tigers, who held Beallsville (1-8) to 63 total yards of offense, got their final touchdown of the night on Kolton Toler’s 32-yard pick-six.

St. Marys 41, Magnolia 8

NEW MARTINSVILLE — St. Marys had the ground game working Friday and rolled to a 41-8 win against host Magnolia.

Logan Eddy led the way for the Blue Devils (2-5) with seven carries for 131 yards and three touchdowns. Eli Cox added 76 yards, and his 58-yard TD run less than a minute into the game set the ton.

Quarterback Ryan Kent, who was 7 for 11 passing for 106 yards and a 49-yard TD strike to Cox, added eight carries, 79 yards and a touchdown to the Blue Devils’ total.

Magnolia (1-6), which said Landon Street carried four times for 51 yards, finally got on the scoreboard with 1:40 left when Gregory Moore ran in from 9 yards out.

St. Marys returns home next week to play Ritchie while Magnolia looks to bounce back at Ravenswood.

Waterford 14, Trimble 6

GLOUSTER, Ohio — Waterford went into one of the toughest places to play in Southeast Ohio and left with a 14-6 victory, defeating Trimble to clinch at least a share of the TVC Hocking title.

The Wildcats (7-2) play host to Belpre next week in their regular season and can secure the league championship outright with a win.

Trailing 6-0 in the second quarter, Trevin Zimmer ran for a 65-yard touchdown to knot it up. Ryker Hutchins’ extra point put Waterford up for good. Later in the period, Hayden Jones found Zavier Heiss on a 24-yard touchdown pass to make it 14-6.

Neither team scored in the second half.

Jones finished with 108 yards on 19 carries and 8 for 13 passing for 115 yards. Zimmer had 94 yards on just four carries, while Colten Jones added 60 yards on 10 carries. Max Roberts was the leading receiver with 62 yards on four receptions.

Finn Pennock had an interception for the WHS defense, which held the Tomcats to 244 total yards.

Monroe Central 49, Frontier 0

NEW MATAMORAS — Coming off a crushing loss to Magnolia last week, Frontier had no answer for Monroe Central in a 49-0 loss Friday.

MCHS quarterback Tucker Howell had 64 rushing yards, 60 passing yards and accounted for three touchdowns to lead the Seminoles (8-1), who bounced back from their first loss of the year to Barnesville.

The Cougars (3-5) committed six turnovers as Monroe Central intercepted five passes and recovered a fumble. True King was 17 for 34 passing for 167 yards.

FHS, firmly in the playoff mix in Region 27, finishes the regular season at River.

Ritchie County 63, Tygarts Valley 20

ELLENBORO – Turner Shriver, Jonah Hamilton. Tygarts Valley could not stop either Ritchie County ballcarrier as the Rebels pulled out a 63-20 win at home Friday night.

Hamilton, who opened the scoring with a 9-yard run, finished with a pair of TDs and rushed for 134 yards on 16 carries. After Ritchie County increased the lead to 14-0, it was Turner Shriver’s turn. He scored the next two TDs and ended the game with 135 yards on just eight carries.

By the end of the third quarter, the Rebels (3-5) maintained a comfortable grasp, lesading 56-0.

For Tygarts Valley (2-6), Elijah Stanley rushed for a team-high 107 yards on just four carries. TV quarterback Jaxon Drennon passed for 109 yards.

Herbert Hoover 56, Ripley 28

RIPLEY – On their first venture to the new Herbert Hoover campus, Ripley played on even terms for a half.

The second half was a completely different story as Herbert Hoover defeated the Vikings 56-28.

Despite falling behind 14-0 in the first quarter, Ripley answered with three touchdowns in the second quarter to catch Herbert Hoover at 21-21 by intermission. Tyson Pritt passed for one TD and ran for another.

When the teams returned to the field, Herbert Hoover came out firing with 21 unanswered points behind a pair of TDs from Dane Hatfield, who ended the game with 176 yards on 27 carries. Hatfield rushed for five TDs and threw for another.

Pritt led Ripley with 90 yards rushing and also threw for another 74 yards.

Tyler Consolidated 57, Ravenswood 13

RAVENSWOOD — Ravenswood’s Austin Vannest, who finished with 174 yards on 14 carries, scored on an 82-yard run at the 10:30 mark in the third quarter Friday night.

Unfortunately for the Red Devils, visiting Tyler Consolidated had already chalked up 51 points and went on to win 57-13.

Branson Winfrey led the Silver Knights (5-2) with 116 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries. He also caught a TD pass from Brady Strode, who finished with four total TD passes — two to Reese Davis.

Jacob Burgess capped the scoring for the Red Devils (0-7) with a 1-yard touchdown run with 8:15 to go.

Tyler has a big test next week at South Harrison while Ravenswood continues to seek its first win with Magnolia coming to town.
