Robert (Bob) Preston Cutlip
Robert (Bob) Preston Cutlip, 77, passed away at home with his loving family Nov. 11, 2024, after a lengthy illness. He was born April 25, 1947, in Sutton, WV, the son of the late Gerald Wayne and Dorothy Louise Brosius Cutlip.
Bob graduated from Sutton High School, Glenville State College, and West Virginia University. His teaching career led him to Tucker, Monongalia, and Wood Counties where he retired from Williamstown High School, teaching computers and math. His curiosity of technology inspired him to be self-taught about computers and therefore began the first computer program at WHS. His joy of teaching allowed him to finish his career, teaching AP calculus and computers. In the early 70’s, Bob and his co-workers, Elaine O’Rourke and Margaret Roberts at Morgantown Junior High School, implemented an innovative individualized learning curriculum with an evaluation component for junior high math students. As a result, they were asked to present their innovative curriculum to the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics in Atlantic City, New Jersey in the spring of 1974. Bob was honored to be their spokesperson at the convention.
Bob thoroughly enjoyed hunting, fishing in Canada, the Betsy River in Michigan, Cranbery, and the Back Fork of Elk. Camping with family and friends, going to his granddaughter’s activities, as well as clock making, wood working, watching WVU ball games, working on the farm, going to the beach and sitting on his porches.
Bob is survived by and will be missed by his wife of 56+ years, Nancy L. Burns Cutlip; two sons, Cory C. (Patricia) Cutlip of Elizabeth, WV and Casey C. Cutlip of Vienna, WV. The very special light of his life, his granddaughter, Megan E. Cutlip; sister, Sally Grimm of Florida; sisters-in-law, Jane Cutlip, Harriet Cutlip, Susan (Steve) Pope; brother-in-law, Bob (Reta) Burns; cousin, John Eakle; nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Adam Christopher Cutlip; brothers, Roy (Butch) and William (Bill) Cutlip, Robert and Mildred Fisher Burns.
