Gordon Keith Huddleston

Gordon Keith Huddleston, 91, of Orangeburg, SC, passed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 6th, 2024. He was a husband for 59 ½ years to the late Delores “Jeneal” Harris Huddleston.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church, Orangeburg, SC, with Reverend Clark Remsburg, Jr. and Associate Pastor Roddey Caughman of Redemption Hill Church, Redemption Hill, PA, officiating. The family will receive friends in The Centre, following the service. A private burial will take place prior to the service at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Gordon was born in Alloy, West Virginia, to the late Glen R. Huddleston and Effie Soulsby Huddleston. He was a 1951 graduate of Parkersburg High School in West Virginia. Gordon earned a Bachelor’s Degree and Masters Degree in Business and Finance from Marietta College, Marietta, Ohio and Ohio University, Athens, Ohio. He also completed one year of Postgraduate Study at Ohio State University and the University of South Carolina.

In 1953, Gordon entered the U.S. Army serving in the Far East Command in Japan during the Korean War. He returned to Parkersburg and began a career with Union Carbide Corporation in Marietta, Ohio. After two years, he joined The DuPont Company. He had managerial assignments at Washington, W. Va., Columbus, OH, Circleville, OH, Belle, W. Va., and Wilmington and Newark, Delaware. In 1971, he joined Fluor Daniel subsidiary, Applied Engineering, in Orangeburg, S.C. With APCO being sold, he resigned and took a position of Associate Professor at South Carolina State University and retired in 2000 after 21 years of teaching.

Gordon was a member of First Presbyterian Church, a church Elder, and Sunday School Teacher. He served as PTA President in both West Virginia and Ohio schools, served as the Fundraiser Chairman for the March of Dimes in West Virginia, and was the 1998 President of the Lion’s Club in Orangeburg.

Survivors include a daughter, Ann H. Allen (Bill) of Lexington, SC; two sons, David Huddleston (Susie) of Duluth, MN, and Jonathan Huddleston (Tracy) of Lone Star, SC; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Gordon was predeceased by his sisters, Glenna Huddleston Smith and Beverly Huddleston Walkup.

Gordon enjoyed golf, travel, time with family, and led a full life. He was passionate about the Lord, his church, and service to the community.
