Barbara Jean Carpenter

Carpenter

Barbara Jean Carpenter, 86, passed away on October 1, 2024. Born on December 31, 1937, to Earl and Leona Smith, Barb was a lifelong resident of St. Marys, WV, and a 1956 graduate of St. Marys High School. Following graduation, she worked at Triplett Brothers before devoting her time to raising her children. She later enjoyed working at JC Penney and in several service positions in Pleasants County Schools, most recently as a special education teacher’s aide. Barb was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of St. Marys, where through the years she faithfully served in roles from Bible School Teacher to Deacon.

In retirement, Barb traveled extensively both domestically and internationally with friends and tour groups. She was a fixture at St. Marys Blue Devils sporting events and West Virginia University home football and basketball games. She frequently sported the flying WV and blue and gold, leaving no doubt that she was a WVU super fan.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, David, of St. Marys, WV; daughter Julie (Don) Harding of Marietta, OH; son Jeff (Tracy) Carpenter of St. Marys, WV; granddaughters Victoria (Steven) Nutter of St. Marys, WV, and Leah (Austin) Luther of Pearland, TX; grandson Robbie Carpenter of Las Vegas, NV; step-grandsons Codey Bills of Chapel Hills, NC, Adam (Allyson) Bills of Huntington, WV, and Trenton (Lindsey) Bills of St. Marys, WV; and six beautiful great-grandchildren.

The family extends its gratitude to the entire team of Marietta Hospice Care/Amedisys, particularly Barb’s special angels, Morgan and Tiffany. Also, thanks to her second family at Elison Assisted Living of Marietta, where she made her home for the last 1 ½ years. All of these individuals allowed Barb to continue the active lifestyle she so loved until her final days.

Services will be held Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 11 A.M at Ingram Funeral Home. Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. Wednesday, and 10-11 A.M. Thursday.
