DEVOLA — A boat accident on the Muskingum River led to the death of one person in Devola Sunday.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources received a call around 8 p.m. Sunday about a boating accident that occurred on the Muskingum River below the Devola Dam, according to ODNR Press Secretary Karina Cheung.

Two people were on a boat when it struck something in the river and they both fell overboard, Cheung said by email.

One person was able to get back to the boat and pulled the other person onboard and then went to a nearby private dock for help, according to Cheung.

CPR was performed by EMS on the person that was pulled from the river but it was not successful, she said.

Information is not available on what agency performed the CPR, nor was the person’s name available Wednesday.

ODNR personnel, an Ohio Division of Wildlife Officer and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, according to Cheung.
