WILLIAMSTOWN – Williamstown City Council met for its regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Council approved a bid to create a fence between City Works Department and Tomlinson Park and reminded attendees of Homecoming next week.

All invoices were approved by council.

Council approved that Mayor Paul Jordan may sign a proclamation for the Constitution Week Proclamation. The proclamation dictates that Constitution Week will be from Sept. 17-23.

The council unanimously approved that Williamstown Police Chief Shawn Graham may review the bid for a 2025 Dodge Durango from Stephen’s Auto in Danville, W.Va. The vehicle would cost approximately $43,000. Upon Graham’s approval, the vehicle may be purchased.

Councilman Shane King shared in a report that the city received three quotes from different companies to build a fence between the City Works Department and Tomlinson Park. The low bid was $7,042 from Jeff’s Fence Company for $7,042. The bid from Jeff’s Fence Company would cover the 125-foot section next to City Works and would round the corner next to the Lion’s Club annex building. The cost included teardown and disposal of previous fencing materials. Council approved the bid and project funds will come from the Contingency Budget.

Council approved plans to remove benches near the flagpole in Tomlinson Park. King mentioned that he is worried about the condition of the wooden benches in the park and would like to replace them with swing benches like the ones in Marietta by the river. According to council, the project wouldn’t begin until late winter or spring with a goal to have functional seating for Music in the Park in 2025.

Next Friday, Williamstown High School will be celebrating Homecoming and Councilman Pat Peters encouraged residents of Williamstown to be careful driving around town as students will likely be out later than usual. The Homecoming Parade will be next Friday at 1 p.m.

On Sept. 21 Williamstown will host a Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Tomlinson Park. Registration for the event begins at 8 a.m. and there will be a Promise Garden Ceremony at 9 a.m.

Starting at $2.99/week.
