Turkey Trot runners pound the pavement for prize
PARKERSBURG — Approximately 3,000 people participated in the 45th annual Turkey Trot three-mile race Thursday morning at Parkersburg City Park.
“About 2,500 pre-registered for the race, but more show up the day of,” said Sharon Marks, race director.
Dorsey Cheuvront, owner of the On the Run and Walk, performed emcee duties during the event. Parkersburg Mayor Tom Joyce started the race by firing off a starting gun.
The first male finisher was 21-year-old Ethan Yost, a Warren High School graduate, with a time of 14:36.
“This was my personal record for a 5K, so I’m pretty happy about that,” he said.
Yost said he finished second in 2022 and third in 2021.
“This was my year to win,” he said.
The top female finisher was 21-year-old Madison Trippett, a Parkersburg native.
“I’ve grown up going to the Turkey Trot every year,” said Trippett, a member of the University of Richmond track team.
The top five male finishers and their times are as follows: Ethan Yost, 14:36; Breydon Gates, 15:12; Kasy Science, 15:53; John Schiefer, 15:55; and Logan Arnold, 16:24.
