PARKERSBURG — The Parkersburg Art Center is now accepting registrations for Chalk the Block, one of the most colorful highlights of ArtOberfest.

Teen and adult artists are invited to sign up for the event, which will occur on Saturday, Oct. 12.

To participate, reserve a spot by completing the online registration https://www.parkersburgartcenter.org/upcomingcurrent-events. The first 24 artists to sign up will receive a complimentary 48-color set of chalk pastels to use during the event. Registration remains open until Oct. 10.

Artists will work on a 4’x4′ or 6’x6′ square along Market Street between Eighth and Ninth streets. Artists are encouraged to bring their own tools, such as stools, water, rags, brushes, or tape measures.

The festivities will also include pizza, drinks, and music, with a special open area for younger artists to create without registering.

Artists can begin working as early as 1 p.m., with all pieces completed by 5 p.m. Visitors will be encouraged to stroll through the Chalk Block and vote for their favorite artwork. People’s Choice cash prizes will be awarded for first and second place in both adult and teen categories, with winners announced on Oct. 15. If it rains, the event will be rescheduled.

Additionally, the Art Center is seeking a few more fine art and artful craft vendors for ArtOberfest, which takes place from 5-9 p.m. the same day. Artists interested in becoming a vendor can email images of their work to info@parkersburgartcenter.org.

ArtOberfest will feature live performances by Moon King, Sour Mash String Band, and The Debarr Stevens Trio. Attendees can enjoy food and drinks from WineDown on Market, DJs Sweet Creations, Parkersburg Brewing Company, and Jennifer Carpenter. If it rains, the event will move indoors to the Parkersburg Art Center.

The Art Center, along with PAC713 Market, will be open throughout the evening. The title sponsor is Bill Bailey Insurance, and other sponsors include Joe Munoz, West Virginia University at Parkersburg, United Bank, Discount Pool Supply, Hall Financial, and Downtown PKB.
