Parkersburg Holiday in the Park opened for the 19th year on Nov. 23 with new light displays as well as some of the standard, and much admired, ones from the past. Each evening there was a steady stream of traffic through Parkersburg City Park and Southwood Park with many stopping to express their pleasure with the hard work and long hours that all the volunteers contributed.
Numerous individuals and businesses spent hours setting up and maintaining their displays. There are over 150 displays in the City Park and Southwood Park that the all-volunteer board and committee, along with area businesses, provide for the pleasure of those driving or walking through the parks during the holiday season. New exhibits this year were Warm Your Mittens, Hello Kitty, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, and poinsettias, just to name a few.
Students from Wood County Elementary Schools entered a coloring contest of Hello Kitty, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Poinsettia's, and Lightning McQueen with 12 winners receiving gift cards that were donated by WesBanco Bank, Community Bank, Advantage Bank and United Bank.
The Holiday in the Park Board and Committee appreciates the citizens of the Mid-Ohio Valley and their guests for the continued support shown to this event. Without the support of our community, businesses, and volunteers these parks would remain dark over the holiday season.
The board and committee continue with their pledge to make the 2014 Holiday in the Park displays a source of pride for the Mid-Ohio Valley.
