Catherine Marie Hughes Pursley, (known as Kitty), 90, of Spencer, W.Va., passed away Jan. 31, 2014, in Dacula, Ga.
Kitty is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Minnie Kemmner of Spencer. She is also preceded in death by former husbands, Romie Russell Hughes and Paul Edgar Pursley; a brother, Chester Alfred Kemmner; a sister, Audrey Kemmner; and a grandson, Jesse Hughes.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Julie Hughes Stewart and Kelly Stewart of Dacula, Ga.; and one son and daughter-in-law, Kevin Stewart Hughes and Lynda Hughes of Suwanee, Ga. Surviving grandchildren are Jeremy Stewart of Mableton, Ga., Brandon Stewart of Birmingham, Ala., Tiffany Hughes of Phoenix, Ariz., Lauren Stewart of Atlanta, Ga., and Justin Hughes of Central, Conn.; and great-grandchildren, Audrey Stewart and Andrew Stewart of Mableton, Ga. Other survivors include a brother, John Kemmner of Spencer, W.Va.; a stepdaughter, Linda Miller of Easley, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Kitty was a loving and giving mother, a hard-working employee and a very giving, loving and serving wife. During her lifetime, she was a switchboard operator at Spencer State Hospital and also worked as a telephone operator for C&P and Southern Bell. She also worked for the Spencer Newspaper. Hobbies included sewing, antiquing, collecting and cooking. She was a member of both Memorial United Methodist Church and First Baptist Church of Spencer, W.Va.
Services will be held at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home in Spencer, W.Va. Visitation is today from 6-8 p.m. and a memorial service be 11 a.m. Tuesday.
