MARIETTA - Marietta wase thankful for the final two minutes in Wednesday's game against Cambridge at Sutton Gym, as its first lead of the game came on a pair of Brittany Deskins free throws with 1 minute, 44 seconds to go in the final period. The Tigers were able to hold on for the final minute-and-a-half to steal a 42-41 victory away from the Bobcats.
"Somehow we ended up with more points than (Cambridge) did," laughed Marietta head coach Mark Hannuksela. "I'm not quite sure how that happened.
"We just kept playing. I don't think we really focused too much on the score or the situation. We just kept playing."
Waterford 54, Warren 51
VINCENT- Despite watching a 10-point lead vanish in the second half, Waterford scored the final three points in the last 18 seconds of regulation to secure an exciting 54-51 victory over Warren on Wednesday night.
Taking possession after an offensive foul was called against the Warriors in a tie game with 42 seconds to play, the Wildcats certainly needed to make a play. And they did it in the biggest fashion when Regan Porter scored in the paint off Hannah Dailey's assist for a 53-51 lead.
After whittling away a 10-point deficit, two may not have seemed like much to the Warriors and with just eight seconds to go they had a chance to possibly tie the game when freshman Katie Rauch was fouled. At the line for a one-and-the bonus, Rauch's shot hit the back of the rim and Dailey collected the rebound to seal the game.
