ATHENS - One person died and two were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Athens County 33 Thursday morning, officials said.
Kurt R. Raschke, 69, of Guysville was killed in the accident that occurred at 10:21 a.m., said a press release from the Athens Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Ronald P. Hedrick, 53, of Shade was driving a dark blue 1997 Ford Explorer eastbound on Athens County 33 when he lost control of the vehicle in a curve, said Sgt. Aaron Hayes with the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Raschke was driving a white 1997 Buick Lasabre, Hayes said.
Hedrick slid off the right side of the highway and over-corrected for the error, Hayes said. Hedrick then slid left of the center line and struck Raschke at an angle, Hayes said.
Both vehicles were disabled in the accident. The collision closed Athens County 33 for 90 minutes while officials cleared the scene, the press release said.
Raschke was pronounced dead at the scene by the Athens County coroner, Hayes said. Raschke was estimated to be going 10 mph when the accident occurred and was not wearing his seatbelt, the press release said.
