Emalene Ellifritt Wiant, 90, of Parkersburg, passed away Dec. 28, 2013, at Worthington Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Greenwood, W.Va., on Sept. 12, 1923, a daughter of the late Victor and Gussie Hudkins Ellifritt.
Emalene had worked for Brodia's Stone & Thomas and retired from Dr. Lotshaw and Dr. Ogelvie's office where she had worked for 21 years as their assistant and receptionist. She was a member of the Eastern Star Parkersburg Chapter 14 for over 50 years, Camden Clark Lifetime Partners, and had volunteered with the American Red Cross for many years. Emalene was a member of Christ United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Win One Sunday school class. She had served on the Pastor Parish Relations Committee and as a Sunday School Teacher.
Surviving Emalene are her two daughters, Carol Dargan and Stephen of Port Republic, Md., and Catherine Freed of Vienna; grandchildren, Ryan A. Freed and Stephanie, Matthew J. Freed, Patrick M. Dargan and Aly, Westley W. Dargan and Stephanie C. Dargan; and three great-grandchildren, Sophia Carroll Freed, Avriana Dargan and Paxtan Dargan.
In addition to her parents, Emalene was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac Jennings "Jeb" Wiant Jr.; brother, Hobart H. Ellifritt; and son-in-law, Richard C. Freed.
The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Christ United Methodist Church, Parkersburg, with the Rev. Thomas McDowell officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen North Cemetery. Visitation will be noon-2 p.m. Friday at the church. An Eastern Star service will be held just prior to the funeral service.
