MARIETTA - A West Virginia man has been charged with stealing more than $4,000 from Alliance Industries in Marietta.
Following an investigation into the alleged misuse of a company's funds, a detective with the Washington County Sheriff's Office arrested Brooks Espy Jr., 54, of 51 Brandi Drive, Mineral Wells, on a fifth degree felony charge of theft.
Using his position in the IT department at Alliance Industries, 27811 State Route 7, Marietta, Espy allegedly made personal purchases using a company credit card that totaled more than $4,000. After having the purchases shipped to his or to a relative's home, Espy would falsify receipts and invoices to submit to his company's accounting department indicating he was purchasing electronic items, according to a release from the sheriff's office.
Among the purchases he allegedly made from several online stores since 2010 were golf clubs, recreational equipment and Disney items. Espy is being held in the Washington County Jail in lieu of bond pending his initial court appearance today.
