ATHENS - Residents are advised to expect large numbers of emergency vehicles from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Athens County Fairgrounds, 286 W. Union St., officials said.
The Athens County Emergency Management Agency and the Athens County Local Emergency Planning Committee for Hazardous Materials have announced they will hold a weapons of mass destruction preparedness exercise at the fairgrounds, said Dan Pfeiffer, public information officer with the Athens County Emergency Management Agency.
This exercise is being conducted with cooperation from the Ohio National Guard's 52nd Civil Support Team for Weapons of Mass Destruction based at Rickenbacker Air National Guard base in Columbus, Ohio, said Pfeiffer. The Athens County Emergency Management Agency, Athens County Sheriff's Office, Richland Area Fire Department and Logan Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team will be present to participate in this training exercise, said Pfeiffer.
Area residents should be aware of the exercise, and understand that no actual danger exists to anyone in or around the Athens County Fairgrounds area during this drill, said Pfeiffer.
