Marilyn Lee Leavitt, 79, of Mineral Wells, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 3, 2013, at Camden Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus.
She was born in Parkersburg, a daughter of the late Charles H. and Maurine (Knight) Leavitt.
Marilyn graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1952, did her undergraduate schooling at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill., and Barrington College in Barrington, R.I. She received her Masters Degree in teaching from West Virginia University. Marilyn spent a total of 17 years in teaching as a Learning Disabilities Teacher, several years in Foxboro, Mass., and then several in Parkersburg. In 1989, Marilyn joined the family business doing Aftercare and PreNeed at Leavitt Funeral Home. Marilyn enjoyed history and did extensive research on the Leavitt Family and the Leavitt Farm on Butcher Bend, where she loved spending time with her family. She did many historical presentations to various local organizations. She attended Tri-County Worship Center in Rockport, W.Va.
She is survived by two sons, David A. Rivers (Dee) of Marshall, Va., and Mark T. Rivers (Pamela) of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; a daughter, Sarah Jane Garratt (Sean) of Schaumburg, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Jane Ellen Burkhead of Floyds Knobs, Ind.; her longtime companion, Michael McClelland of Mineral Wells; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Carr K. Leavitt; and sister, Charlotte Ann Palmer.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with the Rev. Everett Snyder officiating. Burial will be at Parkersburg Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service Saturday.
