H. Joan "Freddie" Frederick, 80, of Smithville, died Dec. 2, 2013, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
She was born June 2, 1933, in Ritchie County, to the late Ruble and Ora (Riddle) Frederick.
Joan served our country as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. She was one of the first graduates from Camden Clark School of Nursing Anesthesia. She worked at St. Joseph's Hospital for many years and retired from the Parkersburg Pain Clinic as a CRNA.
She is survived by her daughter, Debra Frederick of Smithville; two special nephews, Steve Sargent (Judy) and Randy Sargent, both of Cutler, Ohio; one brother, Paul Cox Jr. of New Cumberland, W.Va.; one sister, Betty Haugh of Parkersburg; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters; and two brothers.
The funeral service will be Friday beginning at 1 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre, Ohio, with Pastor John Frum officiating. A Committal Service will take place at the Burnt House Community Building by the Frederick Family Cemetery in Ritchie County following the service. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
