PARKERSBURG - Five fire departments were involved with two fires at the same time on Thursday in Wood County, officials said.
The fires occurred around 3 p.m. at Oakwood Estates off Valley Mills Drive and on Winding Heights Road east of Parkersburg off U.S. 50. The names of the occupants of the residences were unavailable.
At Oakwood Estates, the fire started in the chimney and spread to the roof, said Terry Hefner, chief of the Waverly Volunteer Fire Department. Waverly was assisted by the Williamstown fire department, he said.
Damages were limited to the roof, Hefner said.
"The rest of the house is OK,'' he said.
The Eastwood Volunteer Fire Department assisted by departments from Deerwalk and Mineral Wells responded to the fire on Winding Heights where an addition to a trailer caught fire, Assistant Chief Kenny Moore said.
The fire started in the area of a wood stove in the addition, he said.
The trailer was saved, Moore said. Damages were limited to a hole in a wall and to the addition, he said.
