PARKERSBURG - An investigation into an abandoned dog led the Parkersburg Police Department to two people wanted in Florida, officials said on Thursday.
On Oct. 25, Sgt. M.E. Board began an investigation into the abandoned dog at 1714 Covert St., Sgt. Greg Collins, department spokesman, said.
While running the reported owners of the home through the computer system, it was discovered that both persons were wanted in Florida, Collins said.
Steven James Patterson, 28, 1714 Covert St., and Randi Donell Patterson, 913 School St., Elizabeth, reported to police headquarters on Wednesday to be interviewed regarding the animal and subsequently were arrested on the Florida charges, Collins said.
In a warrant issued in September of this year, the Pattersons were charged with felony grand theft of a vehicle out of St. Lucie County, Fla. The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office advised it would extradite the couple, Collins said.
The Pattersons were processed on fugitive from justice charges and arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court. They will appear in Wood County Circuit Court for extradition proceedings.
Both are being housed in the North Central Regional Jail.
