PARKERSBURG - A Hamilton Middle School student was caught with drugs Wednesday morning.
Mike Fling, assistant superintendent of Wood County Schools, said the student was found with marijuana. School system officials declined to provide the age or gender of the student.
Fling said board of education policy prohibits school officials from releasing any additional information about the student.
"I can't release any particular information about the student because of confidentiality as the student is a minor," he said.
Fling said administrators have not had many reports of this type of situation, but officials work to assist students.
"We use a preventive and protective approach. It is our goal to be proactive to control alcohol, tobacco and drug use within the school setting," he said. "As far as discipline, each instance is approached individually as there are many factors that must be considered."
