PARKERSBURG - From here on out, it's now officially the downside of the high school football season for all the teams in the Mid-Ohio Valley. But there are a lot of key games yet to be played over the next five weeks.
All four Wood County schools play this weekend, Parkersburg South and Parkersburg Catholic in town and Parkersburg and Williamstown on the road.
In Class AAA, the Patriots (1-4) look to end a four-game losing streak at the expense of 20th-ranked John Marshall (3-2) in their 7:30 p.m. homecoming game tonight at the Erickson All-Sports Facility. South hasn't won since Week 1 over Ripley for new head coach Mike Eddy.
Meanwhile Saturday night at Stadium Field, the 5-1 Crusaders, 15th in Class A this week, face visiting South Harrison (2-3) at 7:30 p.m. Jeff Campbell's Catholic squad is seeking its fourth straight win after its lone loss so far to top-ranked Class A St. Marys in Week 3.
PHS, 2-3, is off on a bus ride for a second week in a row this afternoon, this time to to Beckley, where the Big Reds will meet up with Woodrow Wilson (2-3) in a 7:30 p.m. Class AAA contest tonight. On the road last week, Parkersburg gave now 14th-ranked South Charleston a scare before bowing by just a 21-19 score to the Black Eagles
The 4-1 Yellowjackets, ranked fifth in Class A this week after dropping a 32-13 decision to St. Marys in a No. 1 vs. No. 2 ratings battle last Friday, also take to the highways today, but headed north, to Oak Glen to battle the host Golden Bears, winless at 0-6, in a 7 p.m. matchup.

Across the river in Ohio tonight, Marietta (1-5) plays at 0-6 Zanesville Rosecrans, while Warren (2-4) in also on the road at 1-5 East Liverpool, both in 7:30 p.m. grid tilts.
Continuing in the Buckeye State tonight, 2-4 Belpre's 7:30 p.m. homecoming game is against TVC Hocking foe South Gallia, 4-2 and ranked No. 6 in the Division VII, Region 25 ratings; No. 10 Frontier (3-3) plays at No. 7 Caldwell (4-2) in a 7 p.m. Region 25 duel as well as PVC faceoff; and 5-1 Fort Frye, ranked seventh in Division VI, Region 21, entertains Buckeye Trail (2-4) in another 7 p.m. PVC game.
Other games in the Mountain State tonight are headed by a 7:30 p.m. Class AA ratings clash between No. 9 Lincoln (5-1) and No. 11 Ritchie County (4-2) at Ellenboro, while at 7:30 p.m. also, 3-2 Ravenswood, No. 14 in Class AA, plays at Braxton County (1-5) and Class AA No. 17 Roane County (3-2) entertains 2-3 Tolsia.
In Class A tonight, 11th-ranked Wahama (5-1), with Dave Barr the inerim head coach in the wake of Ed Cromley's sudden resignation this week, takes on visiting Federal Hocking (3-3) at 7:30 p.m., while No. 16 Doddridge County and No. 17 Gilmer County, both 4-2, meet up at 7:30 p.m. in Glenville, and 3-3 Magnolia, No. 19 this week, hosts Weir (3-3) at 7:30 p.m.
And now Class A No. 1 St. Marys (5-0) heads to Mt. Zion to battle 0-6 Calhoun County at 7:30 p.m. tonight.
Rounding out tonight's prep card with 7:30 p.m. kickoffs are 0-6 Buffalo at 1-4 Wirt County, where it's homecoming; 4-2 South Charleston at 1-5 Ripley, 1-5 Waterford at 2-4 Franklin Furnace Green, and 2-4 Eastern at 6-0 Trimble, while Paden City (2-4) plays at Conotton Valley (1-5) at 1 p.m. Saturday.
