MARIETTA - The Memorial Health System's Teddy Bear Fund Week will be held today through Saturday. The week is designed to raise funds to provide a stuffed animal to every child, aged 6 months to 12 years old, when admitted to either Marietta Memorial or Selby General hospitals.
"Stuffed animals are used by doctors and nurses as a tool to help demonstrate unfamiliar hospital procedures to children. Casts, IVs and bandages are a common sight on the newly acquired 'furry friends' in the arms of our young patients on their way to surgery, lab and X-ray," Anna Vukovic, Marietta Area Teddy Bear coordinator, said. "Teddy Bear Week" is supported by local fast-food restaurants and their patrons, with McDonald's making a donation per designed meal.
Plastic "Teddy Bear Jugs" will also be available in various area businesses for spare change donations, including Smitty's Pizza, Papa John's Pizza, Putnam Chocolates, Long John Silvers, Bar-B-cutie. Wendy's Restaurants will also have a collection jar out and match the amount with another donation from the owner.
