Dora Virginia "Carol" Kickel Austin, 86, of Parkersburg, W.Va., formerly of Fairmont, W.Va. and Charlotte, N.C., passed away Sept. 14, 2013, at the WV Masonic Home.
She was born Jan. 9, 1927 in Clarksburg, W.Va., a daughter of the late Robert B. and Lula Alice Cress Kickel.
She was a graduate of Victory High School with the class of 1944. She married her high school sweetheart, Charles Austin, on Sept. 30, 1945. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Parkersburg Chapter #14, White Shrine of Jerusalem #4, Royal Court of Amaranth #5, Ladies Oriental Shrine #3, where she served as High Priestess from 1990-1991, and Corinne's Clown Unit of Hathor Court. She served as organist for the various Masonic organizations taking great enjoyment from learning member's favorite hymns or an old "toe-tapping" song. She also loved to present programs during the fellowship time using various members and having a good time by all. In 1995, ill health prevented her from being an active member. She was also a member of VFW Auxiliary Post #5108.
She worked as an executive secretary for a Profession Engineer in Charlotte, N.C. In 1972, she moved to Parkersburg where she worked with her husband in their accounting business, DACA Service, Inc. She was a life-time member of the Baptist Temple, Fairmont, W.Va., where she served as church secretary and Parkersburg Gateway Apostolic Church. She was baptized from Clarksburg Church of God at the age of 12.
She is survived by her son, Larry L. Austin, and his wife, Dianne of Portland, Ore. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Junior Austin, and two brothers, Carl D. Kickel and Robert T. Kickel.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St., south Parkersburg, with Rev. Ray Seebaugh and Rev. Thomas Modesitt officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home, with Eastern Star services observed at 7:30 p.m. by the Order of Eastern Star, Parkersburg Chapter #14.
