RIPLEY - Two people have died from injuries received in a traffic accident in Jackson County, the West Virginia State Police said.
The accident occurred around 10:30 p.m. Monday on Jackson County 56 near the Greenhills Country Club, Sgt. Michael Baylous of the West Virginia State Police said. Responding was Trooper 1st Class W.F. Donohoe III of the Ripley Detachment.
Brian K. Hunt, 47, Sandyville, lost control of a 1997 Chevy Silverado and struck a tree on the side of the roadway, Baylous said. Alcohol and speed were involved and charges may be forthcoming, he said.
Two passengers in the truck died, Baylous said.
John E. Littell, 59, Gandeeville, W.Va., was dead at the scene, Baylous said.
Wanda F. Simmons, 54, of Leroy, W.Va., was taken to Charleston Area Medical Center where she died from injuries on Wednesday, Baylous said.
Hunt was taken to Camden Clark Medical Center. He is listed in critical condition.
At least nine other people died in accidents over the Labor Day holiday, six in three accidents in Fayette County.
