PARKERSBURG - A former secretary and court clerk for the city of Vienna was sentenced Monday in Wood County Circuit Court after pleading guilty to embezzlement in April.
Jennifer Anne Hunt, 43, of Vienna was sentenced to one to 10 years in prison on the charge, with credit for time served. The sentence was suspended and Hunt was placed on five years probation, which includes a requirement to serve 30 days in confinement.
She was assessed court costs and a restitution hearing was scheduled for Oct. 23.
Hunt was indicted by the Wood County grand jury on Jan. 17, 2013, on one felony count of embezzlement. According to court records, between January 2008 and June 2012, she allegedly embezzled more than $1,000 in funds collected by the Vienna Police Department while working as a city court clerk, by turning in money at a slower rate than the money was collected.
The missing money was discovered during a yearly audit in June 2012, which led to an investigation by the Vienna Police Department and the West Virginia State Auditor's Office.
Hunt resigned from her position because of the investigation.
