VOLCANO - The Friends of Mountwood Park donated two paddle boats to the Mountwood Park lake, officials said.
The boats were donated by the efforts of about 36 people on the board for the friends committee, which meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month in the Stiles Administration Building in the park.
Peggy Squires, president of the Friends of Mountwood, said it was important for the nonprofit park organization to provide the boats for visitors to the lake.

"Last month we went to go get the boats for $998.98, so we came in under budget," Squires said.
Allen Conrad, the Mountwood Park concession stand operator, said he and his wife, Diane, are grateful for the way the committee has treated the new guests.
"That was a nice thing you all did for us," Conrad said of donating the boats. "That was very awesome of you all doing that, so thank you."
Squires said the committee appreciated the couple running the concession and rental operations.
"It's a good addition to the park," she said.
Jeremy Cross, park director, said it means a lot to the park for the paddle boats to be operational. He said he gets calls on a daily basis from residents wondering if there is an option to rent the boats for use on the lake.
"The park appreciates the time they put into these projects," Cross said of the new watercraft donation.
Conrad said the boats will be available to park visitors Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. until Labor Day, when the hours will change.
