PARKERSBURG - The West Virginia Oil Marketers and Grocers Association and the West Virginia chapter of Make-A-Wish will kick off a fundraiser to help a Wood County teen at 2 p.m. today at Par Mar Shell at 720 Division St.
Trenton Lockhart, 14, is living with a seizure disorder and will be available to discuss his wish and the Make-A-Wish program. Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of West Virginia children with life-threatening medical conditions.
Today's fundraiser will include Spiderman and a princess to have their photos taken with participants. Four door prizes also will be available.
Representatives from the association, the foundation and Par Mar will participate.
The association and Make-A-Wish are selling wish stars through member convenience and grocery stores in West Virginia in August. All proceeds will go toward funding wishes for area children.
"Last year, this campaign raised $168,507, which resulted in dozens of wishes being granted to children in our state," Jan Vineyard, president of the association, said. "We hope to do even better this year."
The association represents the state's petroleum marketers, convenience stores and independent grocers.
