PARKERSBURG - A traffic accident near Borland Springs Road about one-half mile from Wood County 31 (Deerwalk Highway) left one person with injuries late Tuesday night, officials said.
The one-vehicle crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. on U.S. 50 eastbound and left both lanes of traffic (east and west) shut down while emergency personnel removed the vehicle from the roadway, officials said. The car was on its top when emergency responders arrived at the scene.
Dispatchers said witnesses reported flames showing from the car and the driver to be trapped. However, a dispatcher with the Wood County 911 Center said the driver was out of the vehicle when emergency personnel arrived. The westbound lanes were reopened around 11 p.m. with the eastbound lanes remaining closed.
The driver of the vehicle was taken to Camden Clark Medical Center for injuries. The extent of injuries was not immediately known.
The Deerkwalk Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene. The Wood County Sheriff's Office is investigating the accident.
