PARKERSBURG - At least two barges broke loose and were recovered Thursday morning near Blennerhassett Island.
Witnesses said at least two barge sections containing coal came loose shortly after 9 a.m. Thursday, drifting along the Ohio River on either side of Blennerhassett Island.
Officials with Wood County 911 said they were aware of the incident but were informed the barge operators would retrieve the barges.
Two barges collide on the Ohio River Thursday.
Several AEP barges were on the Ohio at the time of the incident, but it is not known which barge was directly involved.
The U.S. Coast Guard office in Huntington did not have any information immediately available Thursday.
