WASHINGTON - A resolution commemorating West Virginia's sesquicentennial was issued in the U.S. Senate through by Sens. Jay Rockefeller and Joe Manchin of West Virginia.
The resolution cites key points in the state's history, including abolitionist John Brown's raid in Harpers Ferry, that West Virginia is the only state located entirely within the Appalachians, awe-inspiring landscapes, the New River Gorge Bridge, Confederate Gen. Stonewall Jackson. Nobel Prize-winning author Pearl S. Buck and Brig. Gen. Charles "Chuck" Yeager who broke the sound barrier.
