PALESTINE - Five days after a fatal accident at a Wirt County church camp the West Virginia State Police confirmed the death of a 14-year-old boy.
West Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Baylous confirmed the death Wednesday.
Baylous said state police responded Friday afternoon to a report of a 14-year-old boy from Akron, Ohio, who had fallen off a wagon and received fatal injuries. The boy was transported to the Charleston Area Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, Baylous said.
The accident occurred Friday afternoon at the Singing Hills Church Camp on Sonoma Road in Palestine. The property is owned by the Singing Hills Association and the camp has ties to the Tri County Worship Center in Rockport. The church has been holding camps at Singing Hills for close to two decades.
Baylous said the boy's family requested law enforcement not release his name.
"We will honor that," he said.
Baylous said police continue to investigate the incident, but there does not appear to be any foul play.
