Louise R. Morton, 74, of Belpre, died May 30, 2013, at her residence, following a courageous battle.
She was born on the Riebel Family Farm at Chester, Ohio, on July 7, 1938, and was the daughter of the late Dorsel C. and Dorotha E. Newland Riebel.
She graduated from Chester High School in 1956, and graduated from the WVU School of Nursing where she earned her RN. She worked for Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital for 25 years as a staff nurse, head nurse and then becoming the infection control coordinator. She was a charter member of the Professional Woman's Club and was voted their Woman of the Year twice. She loved traveling, spending time at their place in Myrtle Beach, sitting on the beach reading and doing crossword puzzles; she especially enjoyed her family. She married Robert G. Morton on June 3, 1956.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years; four daughters, Debra (William) Shepard of Amherst, N.H., Tammy (Bill Mayhew) Morton of Belpre, Robbin (Randy) Alton of Parkersburg and Vickie (Karl) Miracle of Hockingport; her grandchildren, William (Stacy) Shepard of Austin, Texas, Lauren (Kyle) Luce of Thornton, N.H., Jonathan (Laura Leahy) Shepard of Hopemills, N.C., Andrew Shepard of Amherst, N.H., Jeramiah (Kelly Sabol) Alton of Parkersburg, Alee Alton, and Troy Alton of Parkersburg; great-grandchildren, Amelia Shepard of Austin, Texas, and a great-granddaughter, Luce, due in July. Also surviving is a brother, John (Glenna) Riebel Sr. of Pomeroy, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Luella Jean Thomas.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre, with Pastor Mark Houser officiating. Burial will follow in Rockland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.
