PARKERSBURG - For the second year survivors and their caregivers will be treated to a buffet-style dinner at the Survivors Celebration Dinner before the start of the Relay for Life in Wood County.
Chuck Henderson, service manager of the Texas Roadhouse, said the restaurant was asked to provide the dinner last year and they are back for another.
Henderson said the dinner will be in a tent near the City Park Pavilion on Friday.
"We used to donate dinner passes to teams," he said. "We were asked to do this and were told we would need to prepare for 500 guests."
Susie Warman, community manager for the American Cancer Society, said when the survivors and caregivers register they will receive a special wristband to be admitted to the dinner. She said the dinner will be from 5 to 6:45 p.m.
For those who go, they will be treated to a buffet consisting of pork, green beans, mashed potatoes, rolls and butter, Henderson said.
"We want to do our part in the community to help out through food," he said. "It's a way to say thanks."
Henderson said the restaurant will be busy the week before the relay to get the food ready.
"We have to get the food together. There will be 12 to 15 in the kitchen to load up and get prepared," he said. "We will have seven or eight from our staff and a few volunteers to set up the buffet line and serve."
