Paul Joseph James, 70, of Vienna, died May 8, 2013, at his residence.
He was born in Parkersburg, a son of the late Douglas Eugene and Helen Lorraine Sbordone James.
Paul retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways as a materials supervisor after 35 years of service. He was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church and a U.S. Army veteran serving in Vietnam. He also was part of the "Tuesday Lunch Gang" meeting each Tuesday at Helen's Restaurant.
He is survived by his wife, M. Susan Corbitt-James; son, Kevin B. James of McMechen, W.Va.; granddaughter, Madalyne B. James of McMechen; one brother, Buddy (Nancy) James; two sisters, Nancy (Alfred) Marlow and Carma (Alfred) Lehman; faithful canine companion, "Casey"; and lifelong friends, Sidney "Sid" Wetherall of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Charles "Chuck" Dodd of Ormond Beach, Fla.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his niece, Lorraine James Bannister; maternal grandparents, Gelsimoino and Cecelia Gove Sbordone; paternal grandparents, Daniel and Ella Gay Backus James; maternal uncles, Carl, John and Carm Sbordone; special great-aunt, Marie Gove Manzo; and paternal uncles and aunt, Robert, John and Ira James and Nevarra Hickman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, with Monsignor Joseph Peterson and Father Edward Bell as celebrants. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will be 6-8 p.m. Monday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with a Christian Wake service at 7:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made in Paul's memory to St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church Building Fund or Parkersburg Humane Society.
