John Jackson sits at his desk as the new executive director of Consumer Credit Counseling in Parkersburg. He was the advertising director of the West Virginia Press Association.

"This 6-minute commute is nice," he said.

Consumer Credit Counseling is a nonprofit agency aiding residents with credit counseling, education and debt management.

Jackson was appointed by the organization's board of directors at its last quarterly meeting in January. He has been on the job for about a month.

"John is a great choice in terms of his vision for the agency as a very professional, customer-driven, client-focused organization." said Tad Wilson, president of the Consumer Credit board of directors.

Jackson worked for the press association for about 10 years. Jackson said he enjoyed working for the association, but the gas line explosion in December near Sissonville on Interstate 77 was among the reasons he left.

Someday something may happen during the commute, he said.

Jackson has been settling into the new job.

The first of the month is the busiest time with a large volume of clients to be served, he said. Also, the Murdoch Avenue office was renovated and the staff reorganized to better serve a growing number of clients, he said.

"I don't think I realized how much there was to learn," Jackson said.

Jackson said he wasn't in a hurry to leave the association. He was taking his time looking for another job and was impressed by the Consumer Credit.

"It's an incredible opportunity," Jackson said.

"The outstanding relationship we have with our community was obvious from the very first time I walked through the door," he said. "This is a very exciting time for our agency and I am truly looking forward to increasing the visibility of Consumer Credit and offering more opportunities to the entire Mid-Ohio Valley."

Jackson and his wife, Kimberly, a social worker for the Department of Health and Human Resources, have three children: daughter Shae, 15; and twin boys Logan and Wyatt, 12.
