William L. Smith, 85, of Parkersburg went home to be with his Lord surrounded with his family by his side March 13, 2013, at the Camden Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus.
He was born in Wood County, the son of the late L. Harold and Reata Smith.
He was a U. S. Navy veteran and had owned and operated Smith's Drug Store until it was sold to Nelson's Drug Store and he continued working in the purchasing department until his retirement in 1994. He was a member of the Broadway Baptist Church and sang in the choir and had at one time taught Sunday School. He was a member of the Nemesis Shrine and the 32 Degree Scottish Rite Bodies. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and spending time with his family and was known by all for his wit and sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joann M. Williams Smith of Parkersburg; his children, Pam Smith of Parkersburg, Michael Smith and wife Kathy of Parkersburg, Luann Smith of Parkersburg and Barb Evans of Marietta, Ohio. His grandchildren, Scott Smith and wife Kendra of Parkersburg, Krystal Dearth and husband Greg of Parkersburg, Jesse Smith of Parkersburg, Kara Smith of Parkersburg, Katelyn Smith of Parkersburg, Sarah Rollyson of Parkersburg and Laura Evans of Charlotte, N.C. One brother, Jack Smith of Aiken, S.C., and 10 great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg with the Rev. Rick Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 4 until 7 p.m.
