BELPRE - Garden lovers from the Belpre area joined forces to celebrate the diamond anniversary of the Belpre Garden Club on Monday.
"I really congratulate you on this anniversary," Carolyn Barnes, president of the Little Hocking Garden Club, told the group of about 40 people. "It is a wonderful accomplishment."
Belpre Garden Club president Janet Robinson said she and the other members of the group planned the three-quarters of a century anniversary.

Janet Robinson, president of the Belpre Garden Club, speaks during the organization’s 75th anniversary luncheon on Monday at the Belpre Senior Center at Howes Grove Park.
"We thought it was worth a little celebration, so we had this luncheon," she said.
The club has 16 members who meet on the second Monday each month at one of the homes of a selected member.
The club was founded in 1938 with the motto of "Make Our Community Beautiful."
Over the years the club has beautified the city with projects of donated plants and time to maintain flower planters at the Belpre Public Library as well as Depot Park. The club also has donated to civic projects and partnered with Belpre in Bloom.
"The Belpre Garden Club is an intricate part of the Belpre in Bloom project," said Mayor Mike Lorentz during the luncheon. "They have given 75 years of great service to Belpre and have affected thousands of lives through the members' volunteerism."
Belpre in Bloom organizer Leslie Pittenger said having the garden club's members working with the citywide beautification project has been helpful.
"I have learned so much from these ladies about planting and gardening and am so very happy to be celebrating this anniversary with them," Pittenger said.
Robinson said the club chose to work with the citywide project to do more.
"The Belpre in Bloom project has allowed us to do things on a larger scale with more flowers and better enhancements," Robinson said. "It has been a great boost for us."
Lorentz said he had been a member of the garden club as a child.
"I even won a blue ribbon for a flower arrangement I did," he said. "Unfortunately, I forgot everything I learned."
