CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Shealyn Shafer had 16 points, 15 rebounds and six blocked shots, and Nicholas County used a late 9-0 run to beat North Marion 47-42 in the girls Class AA quarterfinals Thursday at the Charleston Civic Center.
Third-seeded Nicholas County (21-3) earned its first-ever state tournament win. The Lady Huskies are in the tournament for the first time since 2001.
North Marion didn't make a field goal over the final 4 minutes.
Nicole Hamilton's only points, a jumper with 2:55 left, put Nicholas County ahead to stay, 42-40.

North Marion won three straight Class AAA titles from 2009-2011.
Bridgeport 54, Lincoln 34
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Miki Glenn had 33 points and 11 rebounds to lead Bridgeport past Lincoln 54-34 in the girls Class AA quarterfinals Thursday.
Second-seeded Bridgeport (23-2), which moved down from Class AAA this season, advances to the semifinals for the third straight year. The Indians will meet Nicholas County on Friday.
Bridgeport led 38-24 entering the fourth quarter, but the Indians didn't make another field goal until the final minute of the game.
A 3-pointer by Alysse Parsons capped a 10-0 run for Lincoln that cut the deficit to 43-34 with 2:56 left. But the Cougars got no closer.
Glenn went 7 of 13 from the floor and made 19 of 23 free throws. Bridgeport outscored Lincoln 26-2 from the free-throw line.
Makayla McEwayne had 11 points for No. 7 Lincoln (16-10).
Fairmont Senior 72, Clay County 56
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Kaden Whaley scored 22 points to lead Fairmont Senior to a 72-56 win over Clay County in the girls Class AA quarterfinals Thursday night.
Fifth-seeded Fairmont Senior (19-6) is back in the tournament semifinals for the first time since 2001. The Polar Bears will play top-seeded Westside (24-1) on Friday.
Emily Stoller added 15 points and Jasmine Johnson scored 14 for Fairmont Senior, which led 34-24 at halftime.
Brittany Gould paced fourth-seeded Clay County (18-7) with 24 points.
The teams combined for 59 turnovers, including 12 by Stoller.
CLASS AAA
Logan 77, Princeton 66
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Shayna Gore scored 36 points to lead Logan to a 77-66 win over Princeton in the girls Class AAA quarterfinals Thursday.
Fifth-seeded Logan (16-9) earned its first-ever state tournament win and will meet top-seeded Spring Valley in Friday's semifinals. Logan is in the tournament for the first time since 2000.
Logan broke the game open with a 13-3 run to start the fourth quarter. Kyra Cline's 3-pointer with 5:32 left gave Logan a 65-54 lead.
Logan shot 57 percent from the field for the game, including 5-of-10 from 3-point range.
Logan's Monica Mitchell finished with 18 points and 17 rebounds, while Hannah Tothe had 11 points.
McKenzie Akers and Hannah Preservati had 17 points apiece for fourth-seeded Princeton (19-6). Jessica Inman scored 12 and Marissa Mullins added 10.
Westside 68, Pike View 41
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Sophomore Hope Lester scored 26 points to lead defending champion Westside to a 68-41 win over PikeView in the girls Class AA quarterfinals Thursday night.
Megan Endicott added 14 points and 13 rebounds while Faith Davis also had 14 points for top-seeded Westside (24-1).
Westside beat PikeView handily for the third time this season.
Sophomore Lyndsay Hatfield had 19 points for No. 8 PikeView (14-11) and Hope Nester added 12.
Westside led 26-16 at halftime and 49-28 after three periods.
Westside made just 6 of 13 free throws, shot 45 percent from the floor and outrebounded PikeView 51-32.
