PARKERSBURG - Two motions were granted in the case of a Wood County man who was charged with possession of an item taken from the Veterans Museum of the Mid-Ohio Valley.
Matthew Edward Depew, 22, 1929 Seventh St., Parkersburg, was in circuit court for a motion to modify his bond by removing him from home confinement. During the hearing, the state made a motion for Depew to be fingerprinted.
Judge Robert Waters granted both motions.

Depew was charged with receipt of stolen property related to the unlawful possession of a handgun. Police allege the gun was taken from the Veterans Museum of the Mid-Ohio Valley on Seventh Street in Parkersburg. His case was bound over from magistrate court. He has not been indicted.
According to police reports, Depew was in possession of a Beretta 9 mm handgun that had been taken from the museum.
In September, Depew, along with William Joseph Kerns, was acquitted of charges of burglary, first-degree robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery in connection with an incident at a West Virginia Avenue house.
All items taken from the museum in December 2011 were recovered and returned by February 2012.
In another hearing, a Wood County man was sentenced after he was convicted in a trial.
Jesse David Carpenter, 30, in custody at the North Central Regional Jail, was found guilty by a jury of malicious assault as charged by the May 2011 grand jury. This was Carpenter's second trial. His first trial on Feb. 14, 2012 ended after Judge J.D. Beane declared a mistrial after a witness made a statement regarding Carpenter's questioning after his arrest.
Carpenter's sentencing was set for 9 a.m. May 3 before Beane.
