PARKERSBURG - Leave it to a junior to take the top headline on senior night.

Such was the case here Thursday inside the Rod Oldham Athletic Center as Parkersburg South 11th-grader Drake Mills stunned top-ranked Cabell Midland 170-pounder Nick Boone as the Patriots rolled to a triangular victory by smashing the Knights, 67-9, and blowing out George Washington, 60-10.

Mills, who entered the fray ranked third by state coaches, was involved in one of the marquee battles of the evening. The match went back and forth, and Mills led 5-3 after an escape 31 seconds into the final period.

Parkersburg South senior 220-pounder Zach Haddix, top, is just moments away from securing a first period pin against George Washington’s Kareem Badger on Thursday night inside the Rod Oldham Athletic Center. The Patriots defeated Cabell Midland, 67-9, and handed George Washington a 60-10 setback.

However, Boone squared things at five just 14 seconds later via a takedown only to then allow a reversal to Mills, who won the match in style by pinning Boone with 24.1 seconds left in the match.

The other battle that pitted a No. 1 versus a No. 3 occurred at 160 where GW's Jake Smith met Patriot Briar Shively, who was honored on senior night along with fellow classmates Jake Alexander, Duane Cotton, Stewart Morris, Kyle Knotts, Tyler Richards, Braidon Knotts, Jordan Quiocho, Lance Hill and Zach Haddix. Following a scoreless first, Smith took the lead for good on an escape and led 2-0 entering the third after Shively, who recorded his 100th pin last weekend at the West Virginia Duals, was hit with his second stall. Smith secured the 4-1 decision by getting a late takedown in the final period.

In the other match, George Washington heavyweight Jack Skidmore secured a 36-34 win for the Patriots when he decisioned Cabell Midland's Nick Cunningham, 5-0. CM's Logan Adkins scored a 5-2 win versus No. 8 Sam Moore at 106 while GW's Levi Smith, also unranked like Adkins, defeated No. 8 Hunter Fischer 8-3 at 113.
