MARIETTA - A Marietta woman was killed when the vehicle she was driving ran off a road in Marietta Township late Sunday morning.

Virginia Lockhart, 62, was traveling south on Hadley Hollow Road when the accident occurred, according to Trooper Lea Mikes with the Marietta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

"The 2009 Chevy Impala went off the left side of the road and struck a tree, then rolled over an embankment and came to rest on its top in a creek bed," she said. "The accident occurred about 0.2 mile north of County Road 9."

Towing service workers prepare to haul a 2009 Chevy Impala out of a streambed along Hadley Hollow Road following a fatal accident in Marietta Township on Sunday.

Lockhart was the only person in the vehicle, and Mikes said she was wearing a seatbelt. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is still under investigation, but no alcohol or drug use is suspected," Mikes said. "And the roadway was dry."

She said a passerby saw Lockhart's vehicle in the streambed and notified authorities of the accident. The Reno Volunteer Fire Department and rescue squad responded.
