MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Joe Jackson scored 16 points and Chris Crawford hit two free throws with 1.9 seconds remaining as Memphis won its 10th straight with a 73-72 victory over Marshall on Saturday afternoon.
Crawford's free throws were followed by a 3-pointer by Marshall's DeAndre Kane as the horn sounded. It wasn't enough as the Thundering Herd (9-11, 2-3 Conference USA) dropped their third game in the last four.
Adonis Thomas added 15 points while Shaq Goodwin chipped in 11 for Memphis (16-3, 5-0). Jackson also had five assists.
Kane led the Thundering Herd with 22 points, converting nine of his 18 shots, while D.D. Scarver, who helped key Marshall's second-half rally, finished with 20. Dennis Tinnon had nine points and nine rebounds for the Herd.

Marshall never led in the game, but stayed within striking distance through much of the second half.
Marshall's first half was much better than the disaster of their last game - a 102-46 loss at Southern Mississippi on Wednesday, where they trailed by as many as 40 before intermission.
Memphis shot 54.2 percent (13 of 24) in the first half Saturday but could manage only a 38-33 lead. Thomas, who has struggled offensively in recent games, had 12 points in the frame.
Kane led the Herd with 11 points, missing only two of his seven shots. He was the only Marshall player connecting with any accuracy, as the Herd shot 13 of 32 (40.6 percent), including 3 of 11 (27.3 percent) from 3-point range.
Ohio 69, Kent State 68
KENT, Ohio (AP) - D.J. Cooper made two free throws with 55 seconds left and Ohio remained undefeated in Mid-American Conference play with a 69-68 victory over Kent State on Saturday night.
Ohio took a 60-52 lead - its largest of the game - when Nick Kellogg scored on a layup with 7:46 left in the second half. But the Bobcats had a tough time holding off Kent State, which kept the score close and eventually took a one-point advantage on Kris Brewer's layup with 1:14 remaining.
But Ohio (15-5, 6-0) pull ahead for good after two free throws by Cooper, who led the Bobcats with 23 points and five assists. Reggie Keely finished with 20 points and Kellogg added 10 points.
Ohio has won seven consecutive games.
WOMEN
No. 24 Iowa State 53,

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - Hallie Christofferson scored 23 points and grabbed seven boards in No. 24 Iowa State's 53-49 win over West Virginia on Saturday.
Nikki Moody and Chelsea Poppens added 10 apiece for the Cyclones, who snapped a two-game losing streak.
Iowa State (14-4, 5-3 Big 12), which trailed 37-25 35 seconds into the second half, shot just 39 percent (16 of 41) from the field, but nine of those shots came from 3-point range. The Cyclones rallied to tie the game 43-all with 6:24 left to play on Christofferson's trey.
Ayana Dunning scored West Virginia's next six points to make it 51-49 with a little over 2 minutes remaining, but the Mountaineers (11-8, 3-5) missed their next four shots and two free throws as Iowa State pulled away.
Dunning led West Virginia with 17 points, but the Mountaineers, who shot 41 percent (19 of 46) made just 5 of 10 free throws.
Ball State 77, Ohio 46
MUNCIE, Ind. Ohio Women's Basketball wasn't able to pick up its fourth straight win in the all-time series against the Ball State Cardinals on Saturday afternoon, falling in Muncie, Ind., by a final score of 77-46.
In a game which featured 42 fouls and 48 free throws, Ball State had four players score in double figures. Brandy Woody led the way, scoring a game-high 23 points on 6-6 shooting and a 10-12 success rate from the free-throw line. She was joined in double figures by Brittany Carter (15 points), Shanee' Jackson (13), and Shelbie Justice (11).
