Pearl Batton Bates, 96, of Reedy, W.Va., died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at the Roane General Hospital, Spencer, W.Va.
She was born Feb. 23, 1916, in Billings, W.Va., a daughter of the late William and Anna Haught Batton. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Good Hope Baptist Church on Cain's Run near Reedy. Pearl was a domestic missionary and helped many local people in times of need.
Pearl is survived by two daughters, Anna Elizabeth Flint of Spencer and Margaret Ellen Platt of Reedy; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Hamilton Bates in 2005; a daughter, Mary Lynn Bates Perrin; a son, Earl Stephen Bates; and six brothers.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with Revs. John Price and Garry Bowen officiating. Burial will be in the Good Hope Cemetery, Reedy. Visiting hours will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
