BOYS BASKETBALL

Roane County 68,

MT. ZION - Ryan Slider posted 26 points, 11 boards, five assists and as many steals, but it wasn't nearly enough Thursday night for host Calhoun County as the Red Devils dropped to 1-7 following a 68-57 setback to Roane County.

The Raiders (7-2) were led by Jacob Neal's 22 points while teammates Brad Richard and Zack McKown chipped in 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Red Devil Ricky Hall posted a double-double thanks to 10 points and a game-high 14 boards. Mason Sheldon added eight markers and 10 caroms in the setback.

WEST UNION - St. Marys attempted 23 foul shots in the fourth quarter and finished with 28 more made free throws than host Doddridge County here Thursday night as the Blue Devils upped their mark to 6-1 with a 75-63 triumph.

Doddridge County, now 1-5 with a road game Wednesday at Parkersburg Catholic, trailed by only three with 72 seconds to go, but never got any closer.

St. Marys, which went 35 of 51 from the foul line and had five players crack double figures in scoring, was led by Andrew Cosper's game-high 21 points. Cosper knocked down 15 of 18 from the charity stripe and collected four steals.

Blue Devil Jordan Whitehair had a double-double with 11 points and as many boards. Austin Bayless added 15 points, Colby Brode 13 and Cameron Lancaster 11 for the Blue Devils, who welcome Doddridge County to town next Thursday.

The Bulldogs, who went 7 of 12 from the line, were paced by Dillon Muhly-Alexander's 17 points, five assists and four steals. Ashton Hinzman (15) and T.J. Baldwin (13) also scored in double figures for DCHS.

Ravenswood 61,

Tyler Consolidated 49

RAVENSWOOD - Jacob Barr dropped in 17 points to help lead host Ravenswood to a 61-49 victory on Thursday evening versus Tyler Consolidated.

The Silver Knights, led by Dylan Romine with 14 points along with Scott Sole and Darren Heintzman with 12 tallies apiece, fell behind 32-13 at halftime and dropped to 3-6 on the campaign.

Ravenswood, now 2-4 with a road affair Saturday at Herbert Hoover, also received 13 markers from Heath Burgess and 10 counters from Jake Martin. Red Devil Issac Crow scored six points and pulled down 15 rebounds.

Clay County 49,

Braxton County 38

SUTTON - Braxton County, led by Austin Rhodes' game-high 21 points, jumped out to a 15-6 cushion after one quarter, but found itself trailing 30-28 at halftime en route to falling 49-38 to visiting Clay County on Thursday evening.

Stephen Cole led the Panthers with 20 points and Michael Shamblin added 11.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Spring Valley 76,

Parkersburg High 64

HUNTINGTON - Madison Morris popped in a game-high 22 points and teammate Sarah Kelly added 20 as host Spring Valley bested Parkersburg High 76-64 Thursday night.

PHS won only the third quarter 16-15 as the Timberwolves improved to 6-4 while dropping the Big Reds to 4-6 on the season.

Hailey Ackerman led PHS with 18 points while Imani Ward netted 14, Megan Morrison 11 and Kennedy Walker 10.

The next game for the Big Reds is at home Saturday versus Shady Spring, JV at 4 p.m, and varsity at 6 p.m.

Ravenswood 73,

Tyler Consolidated 66

KIDWELL - Torrye Cline tallied a game-high 25 points and teammate Sophia Kinnard added 14 points and nine boards, but host Tyler Consolidated still came up short as visiting Ravenswood left town Thursday with a 73-66 victory.

The Red Devils knocked down 25 of 29 from the foul line in improving to 6-4 with a road game Saturday at St. Marys. Hailey Miller, who hit 9 of 10 from the line, led the visitors with 21 points. Taylor Youell added 19, Melonna Carmichael had 17 and Hannah Murray 10. Carmichael drained 12 of 13 from the charity stripe.

Tyler Consolidated, which dropped to 4-5 and plays Monday at Doddridge County, also received 16 points and five assists from Sydney Reed.

Trimble 48, Belpre 46

GLOUSTER, Ohio - Belpre missed a 3-pointer at the end of regulation to win the game here Thursday night as the visiting Golden Eagles came up short versus Trimble, 48-46.

Jackie Cunningham and Sierra Barker combined for seven of Belpre's nine 3-pointers and finished with 14 points apiece for the now 6-4 Golden Eagles, who play Monday at Southern.

Trimble (4-8) was led by Tia Altier with 14 markers. Teammate Morgan Murphy added nine counters.

Shenandoah 52,

Frontier 34

NEW MATAMORAS- Kaysey King led all scorers with 22 points as visiting Shenandoah rolled to a 52-34 win here Thursday versus Frontier.

The Cougars, who dropped to 6-5 and plays host to Caldwell on Monday, received 13 points, seven boards and two blocks from Kelsi Rinard.

Ashley Wukelich contributed 14 points and Rachel Rossiter 10 for Shenandoah (7-4).

COLLEGE WOMEN

Iowa 77, Ohio State 71, OT

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Tayler Hill scored a career-high 34 points and Ohio State battled back from a 13-point second-half deficit, but it wasn't enough as the Buckeyes fell to the Hawkeyes, 77-71 in overtime tonight at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in the Big Ten opener for both teams.

The loss drops Ohio State to 10-4 and 0-1 in the Big Ten while Iowa improves to 12-3 and 1-0.

Ohio State had a chance to win the game at the end of regulation, but missed three jumpers in the final eight seconds, sending the game to overtime.

Trailing by eight points, 60-52, with 3:55 left, Ohio State went on an 11-0 run with seven points from Hill and four by Darryce Moore. But as soon as Hill put the Buckeyes up by two with 23 seconds left, Morgan Johnson was fouled by Moore on a fastbreak at the other end and calmly sank two free throws to tie the game at 63-all going into the extra period.
