Be generous with tips

There is an issue that I feel I've been silent on too long. I would like to educate everyone on the issue of tipping your server.

My daughter started working as a server when she was in high school and continues to do so while going to college. I knew that work would be hard, but never fully understood how hard until she started waiting tables. I will say, I'm very proud of her. She is an excellent server. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people out there who still only leave $1 or $2 tips.

These servers only make $2.13 an hour. Their tips are their main income. I've even been appalled to learn that some people leave the restaurant without leaving a tip at all. These gals/guys work very hard. It's a job I couldn't do, at least I wouldn't make it past the first day because someone who was nasty to me would be wearing their food. I'm amazed at the patience my daughter has shown people who are nasty and rude.

I admire her for it. So the next time you go out to eat, remember your server doesn't even make minimum wage and leave them a decent tip. Be generous if they have done a good job - they've earned it.
