PARKERSBURG - A Parkersburg man was charged on Wednesday with transferring stolen property, a charge related to a November break-in at a local business, the Parkersburg Police Department said.

A criminal complaint in Wood County Magistrate Court filed by Detective D.A. Moody alleges on Nov. 27, Richard Lee Treadway, 36, 1901 Seventh Ave., sold a new Echo chainsaw which had been stolen from Dowlers Tractor Sales and Service for $175, Sgt. Greg Collins said. The chainsaw was valued at $330 and Treadway had reason to believe that it was stolen, Collins said.

Treadway was processed at headquarters and arraigned in magistrate court where he was released on $1,000 bond. Additional arrests are possible, Collins said.

The breaking and entering occurred between Nov. 24 and Nov. 26 at Dowler's at 1604 Dupont Road in south Parkersburg. Twelve Echo chainsaws were stolen worth $4,800, Collins said.

All of the missing chainsaws were new, never having been fueled or oiled, he said.

The investigation recovered two stolen chainsaws. It is believed that the remaining chainsaws have been sold throughout the area, Collins said.

It appears likely they may have been purchased without the buyers knowing they were stolen, Collins said.

The department is asking anyone who may have purchased one of these chainsaws or approached about buying a chainsaw to contact Moody or any member of the department at 304-424-8444. Anonymous tips can be left at www.parkersburgpolice.com.
