MARIETTA - Washington State Community College's Board of Trustees voted this week to extend President Bradley Ebersole's contract through June 2015.
"The board wanted to show their commitment to Ebersole and the college by securing the president for at least two more years," board Chairman Ken Schilling said in a news release issued Wednesday.
Ebersole became president in September 2011, coming to Washington State after serving six years as vice chancellor for academic affairs at Baton Rouge Community College in Louisiana.
Ebersole has overseen a budget reduction process this year due to a decrease in enrollment caused by a variety of factors, including the state-mandated change from quarters to semesters.
"I consider myself fortunate to be in this position and am pleased to continue my work with the board, the faculty and the staff as we move the college forward in serving students and the community," Ebersole said in the release.
The release noted Ebersole's efforts in establishing professional relationships with leaders from area colleges and universities and community leaders in the region. He has established the college's Business Action Team and meets regularly with staff groups to encourage an open dialogue.
"Dr. Ebersole is to be commended for his dedication to WSCC," trustee Holly Dexter said in the release. "He has a leadership style which seems to have been successful in guiding the college through some tough financial decisions. We are fortunate to have Dr. Ebersole and his wife choose to be a part of the Marietta community for at least another two years."
