Court rejects plea agreement

PARKERSBURG - A woman whose co-defendant was acquitted last week was in Wood County Circuit Court Wednesday for a plea hearing.

Amanda Karine Flowers, 23, in custody at the North Central Regional Jail, was remanded to custody after her plea was rejected by Judge Jeffrey Reed. She was indicted by the May 2012 grand jury on two counts each of burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary. Her co-defendant, Shawn Dwayne Flowers, 23, Vienna, was acquitted of the same charges in a Dec. 12 jury trial.

In other hearings Wednesday:

* Derek Miller, 30, in custody at the North Central Regional Jail, was sentenced by Reed after his plea to a charge of conspiracy to operate or attempt to operate a clandestine drug laboratory as charged by the grand jury on July 12, 2012. He was sentenced to one to five years in prison with credit for 226 days served. A motion for probation or alternative sentencing was denied. His co-defendant, Cristal Coon, 31, is to be sentenced at 1:15 p.m. today after her Oct. 23 plea to a charge of operating or attempting to operate a clandestine drug laboratory.

* Kristi Renee Bennett, 21, in custody at the North Central Regional Jail, appeared for an arraignment on a petition to revoke probation. Judge Robert Waters set a preliminary hearing for magistrate court for 10 a.m. Jan. 11, 2013 and a final hearing was set for 2 p.m. Jan. 22, 2013. She admitted to the allegations in the petition and was referred for placement in the Anthony Center as soon as space is available.

* Jessica Lynn Estep, 26, in custody at the North Central Regional Jail, appeared for an arraignment on a petition to revoke probation. A probable cause hearing was set for 2 p.m. Jan. 2, 2013 in Wood County Magistrate Court and a final hearing was set for 1:30 p.m. Jan. 14, 2013 before Waters.

* Justin P. Caplinger, 22, in custody at the North Central Regional Jail, was denied a motion by Waters to reinstate his bond and placement on home confinement.

* Horace Anthony Duckett, 37, in custody at the North Central Regional Jail, was sentenced after his Oct. 19 plea of guilty to a charge of delivery of a controlled substance. Judge J.D. Beane sentenced him to one to 15 years in prison with credit for 244 days served. Beane denied a motion for probation or alternative sentencing.
