Circuit court holds hearings

PARKERSBURG - Five hearings took place Tuesday in Wood County Circuit Court.

* Eric Lee Jones, 48, in custody at the North Central Regional Jail, entered a plea agreement to plead guilty to a charge of third-degree sexual assault and a recidivist information from a 1993 conviction on a charge of gross sexual imposition from Franklin County, Ohio.

A motion for probation or alternative sentencing was taken under advisement by Judge Robert Waters. Sentencing was set for 1 p.m. Feb. 22, 2013, and a motion was granted to allow him to remain free on bond pending sentencing.

* Matthew Duke Saunders, 23, in custody at the North Central Regional Jail, entered a plea agreement to plead guilty to a charge of malicious assault. A motion for probation, alternative sentencing or Anthony Center was taken under advisement. Sentencing was set for 1 p.m. Feb. 21, 2013, before Waters.

* Brian Michael Peters, in custody at the North Central Regional Jail, appeared for a plea hearing but decided he did not wish to plead. His case was moved to the January court term and trail was set for Feb. 23, 2013, before Waters.

* James Kelmer Laird, 51, in custody at the North Central Regional Jail, appeared for a status hearing and his trial was still set for Jan. 29, 2013, before Judge Jeff Reed.

* Edward Tracy Wolfe, 22, in custody at the North Central Regional Jail, was sentenced by Reed to one to 10 years in prison on a charge of grand larceny and 308 days in the regional jail for a charge of fleeing from an officer with credit for 308 days consecutive to each other and any charges from Ritchie County.
